CEREC Porcelain Restorations
CEREC® gets its name from CEramic REConstruction and is a brand name of an in office imaging and crown and onlay system made by the Sirona Corporation. It is a breakthrough in dentistry because it allows dentists in most cases to restore your tooth with a porcelain restoration “in about an hour!” With a CEREC restorations there is no temporary to wear and no second dental visit.
There is a difference between and an onlay and a crown. An onlay usually replaces a filling and covers one or more of the cusps of the tooth whereas a crown covers the entire biting surface. Crowns and onlays restore tooth function, address esthetic needs and can improve the overall health of your mouth.
We use the CEREC® 3D system in our office. It mills crowns and onlays from feldspathic porcelain blocks (Vitablocs MarkII) and from leucite-reinforced porcelain blocks (Empress® CAD). The blocks come in an assortment of sizes and shapes, colors and translucency to match natural tooth enamel. This allows us to make metal free restorations that combine the esthetics of enamel with strength of a natural tooth.
We have many satisfied patients! In fact, over 15 million CEREC® restorations have been placed worldwide. To hear their stories click on www.cerecstories.com.
