SEDATION INSTRUCTIONS
As discussed, you will be
given sedative medications and a local anesthetic at your next dental
appointment to help you relax and to provide the necessary dental care.
Your cooperation with the following is needed:
1. We must know
if you have taken any additional medications or alcohol prior to the
sedation visit.
2. If you feel
that you are sick the day before the appointment, please call the office
and speak to one of the clinical staff as we may need to reschedule
your sedation appointment.
3. Be sure to have
someone drive you to your appointment, stay with you, take you home,
and be responsible for you for the remainder of the day. Do not plan
any activity for later in the day.
4. Wear comfortable
clothes and shoes to your appointment. Do not wear flip flop type shoes
as these are hard to walk in while sedated. Do wear a short sleeve shirt
with a jacket so that we may have easy access to place a blood pressure
monitoring cuff.
5. Be sure to clean
your mouth well before surgery. If you have been given a mouth rinse,
begin rinses four days prior to surgery. Rinse both morning and evening
for 30 seconds each time. Rinse the morning of surgery also. This will
reduce the bacteria that can cause infection.
6. Make up ice
packs ahead of time. Using one part water and two parts rubbing alcohol,
mix in a standard freezer baggie and freeze.
The alcohol will keep the mixture in a pliable form, easier and more
comfortable to conform to the facial area. It is a good idea to have
two-three of these on hand. This is to control post-operative swelling.
7. Do not eat or
drink anything six hours prior to surgery. You may take the prescribed
medications with a small amount of water or juice. Do not consume alcoholic
beverages the evening before or the day of surgery.
8. Due to infection
and contamination, we would rather teeth not be taken from the office.
We look forward
to providing dental care to you and your family. If you have any additional
questions, please contact our office. Your cooperation with these instructions
is sincerely appreciated.
